AUGUSTA – Maine’s solar energy rebate program will be extended for two more years.
A bill signed into law Tuesday by Gov. John Baldacci extends the rebate offer through the end of 2010. The program, launched in 2005 and administered through the Public Utilities Commission, is limited to Maine residents.
Because of the program’s popularity, rebates for solar electric systems such as solar-paneled roof systems were curtailed due to limited funds. Rebates for solar thermal systems are still ongoing.
To qualify for rebates for solar photovoltaic systems, applicants must show that an energy audit of the property with that solar system has been completed.
