BIDDEFORD – Joan Howard has been named head field hockey coach at the University of New England.

A former assistant at UNE and a one-time head coach at Fitchburg (Mass.) State, Howard will step down as UNE’s head softball coach to become just the second head coach in Nor’easters field hockey history.

Howard replaces Julie Redman, who coached field hockey at UNE for the last four seasons.
