A truly better boiler

By way of full disclosure, I am a pellet stove dealer in Houlton. I read with interest the editorial regarding the rule changes pending for the operation of outdoor wood boilers, “Better boiler rules” (BDN, May 17).

The editorial is informative as to potential changes necessary to bring these units to usable standards. The piece ends with “These are straightforward ways to deal with the growing problem of wood boilers.” I believe there is a better way then lowering the allowable level of emissions.

I represent a manufacturer who has developed a pellet boiler that can heat up to 2,500 square feet, has a range of zero to 113,900 Btu, measures 56 inches by 33 inches, is 62 inches high and is designed to be installed inside a home.

The pellet boiler can be installed without a chimney – we use a 4-inch pellet vent pipe that can exit through a wall – and they burn with virtually no smoke and have been shown to be net zero percent contributor to the greenhouse gas problem.

Alternative heating fuels are becoming the wave of the future and wood pellets are leading the charge. For homeowners who want to continue to enjoy the economy and the feel of wood-fired heat without the hassle of polluting the neighborhood there are alternatives that the neighbors will not complain about.
