BANGOR – The area’s amateur baseball season kicks off Sunday with an exhibition doubleheader between the Bay League all-stars and Patriot Mutual, the reigning Portland Twilight League champion.

The doubleheader will begin at 1 p.m. at Mansfield Stadium, and admission is free.

The Bay League, a seven-team wooden-bat league based in eastern Maine that will begin its sixth season on June 17, features a number of players with local and regional high school and/or collegiate ties.

Players expected to play Sunday include current Husson College standouts Joey Robicheau of Bucksport, Anthony DeRosa of Bangor, Chad Lavway of Presque Isle, Andrew Patterson of Brewer, and Nick Arthers of Belfast; University of Southern Maine players Ryan Jones of Bangor and Matt Nickerson of Searsport; former Hampden Academy and University of Maine pitcher Pat Moran of Winterport, who will play for Saint Joseph’s College next season; and current Bay League commissioner Mark Farnham.

Patriot Mutual, coached by Miles Hunt, includes a number of former college standouts from the likes of Saint Joseph’s, Bates, Pomona-Pitzer, Southern Maine, and Dickinson, as well as starting pitcher John Carriero, who was 5-1 with a 1.67 ERA for the team last summer.
