A man walked away from the Bangor Mall on Friday afternoon after getting physical with a security guard, according to police.

A security guard at J.C. Penney Co. Inc. stopped the man after watching him try to steal undisclosed items from the store, police said. The unidentified man gave the merchandise back to the guard after being confronted.

But when the guard attempted to bring the man back to the security office, the man grabbed him by the throat and broke free. The man took off outside, climbed into a vehicle and escaped, police said.

No arrests had been made as of Friday evening. Police are investigating. (Kevin Miller, BDN)
