CHERRYFIELD – One private cemetery and 10 historic buildings, including five private homes and gardens, will be open to the public on Saturday, Aug. 4, between 1 and 4:30 p.m. for an Architectural Tour sponsored by the Cherryfield-Narraguagus Historical Society.
The Cherryfield Historic District, an area of approximately 75 acres located on both sides of the Narraguagus River, was entered in the National Register of Historic Places in 1990 by recommendation of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission and contains fine examples of Second Empire, Federal, Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne and Colonial Revival architecture.
This is the first time any of these beautiful old homes has been opened to the public, according to sponsors.
Among places open for viewing are the General Alexander Campbell House, the Archibald-Adams House and the private Pine Grove Cemetery.
Tickets at $20 can be purchased in advance by mailing your check to P.O. Box 96, Cherryfield 04622, and picked up on Aug. 4 at the Historical Society’s new home at 88 River Road. They may also be purchased there on the day of the tour.
