Pavanto, Bates lift Orono by George Stevens

ORONO – Sara Pavanto allowed two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out 13 to lead the Orono Red Riots to a 3-2 softball victory over the George Stevens Academy Eagles in high school action Saturday.

Jessica Bates hit a two-run double in the first inning for the Red Riots and Sarah Thibeault singled twice.

Lydia Clapp allowed three runs on four hits and four walks while striking out 11 for the Eagles. Kate Ahern hit an RBI single.

Hermon, Presque Isle split

At Presque Isle, Ashley Kelley allowed just one run on four hits and one walk while striking out 16 to lead Hermon to the 3-1 win over Presque Isle in the first game. Presque Isle won the second game 7-6.

In the first game, Kelley had two doubles and a single with an RBI for Hermon. Amanda Page and Erin Arnold singled twice apiece.

Allisen Donovan hit a double and two singles for Presque Isle.

In the second game, Donovan hit two singles and drove in a run for the Wildcats and Heather Fowler had two singles. Angela Norsworthy hit an RBI single and recorded eight strikeouts.

Jamie Beers, Monica Gallant Lily Berry each had two singles for Hermon. Kelley had 10 strikeouts.

Caribou, Mattanawcook split

At Lincoln, Ashley Doucette hit a double and two singles to lead Caribou to a 10-5 win over Mattanawcook Academy in the first game of their doubleheader. MA won the second game 9-5.

In the first game, Kristen Espling doubled and singled for the Vikings and Kylee Lanteen added two singles.

Michelle Paul and Renee Libbey had two singles for the Lynx and Hillary Pelkey doubled. Deni Nicastro recorded 11 strikeouts.

In the second game, Bree Hanscom had a double and two singles with two RBIs for Mattanawcook. Kristy Burleigh had three singles and two RBIs and Libbey added two singles. Nicastro had 10 strikeouts.

Espling homered and singled for Caribou as Ashley Doucette and Lanteen each singled twice.

At Hampden, Danielle Richard allowed just one hit and no walks while striking out 10 to lead John Bapst of Bangor to the shutout win over Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor.

Richard tripled and singled to drive in two runs for the Crusaders and Hillary Lafferierre added two singles and two RBIs.

Carrissa Tinker singled in the second inning for MDI.

Jones.-Beals sweeps DI-Ston.

At Jonesport, Brittany Alley scored the winning run on Tiffany Alley’s fielder’s choice in the seventh inning to lead Jonesport-Beals past Deer Isle-Stonington in the second game 5-4. Jonesport-Beals also won the first game 4-1.

In the first game, Rachel Church had two singles and an RBI for Jonesport-Beals and Brittany Alley hit an RBI single.

Mary Parker singled three times for Deer Isle-Stonington and Erica Hutchins added an RBI triple.

In the second game, Church had two singles and two RBIs for the Royalettes and BreAnna Beal hit an RBI single.

Parker singled twice and drove in two runs for the Mariners. Whitney Haskell and Audra Eaton added RBI singles.

Presque Isle sweeps Hermon

At Presque Isle, Logan York hit three doubles and a single to drive in six runs and lead Presque Isle past Hermon 17-7 in the second game of a doubheader. The Wildcats also won the first game 11-6.

In the first game, Luke Ireland hit a three-run home run and a sacrifice fly for Presque Isle. Amos Dean and York had two singles and two RBIs apiece. Brennan Shaw hit three singles and Bennett Cassidy added two singles and an RBI.

Zach Deabay had two home runs and three singles with four RBIs to lead Hermon.

In the second game, Dillon Kingsbury and Shaw each had three singles and two RBIs. Ireland hit two doubles and a single. Dean had two singles and two RBIs and Dan McCue singled twice.

Brian Day doubled and singled to drive in two runs for Hermon and Brent Dority doubled and singled.

Caribou, Mattanawcook split

At Lincoln, Adam Long hit a two-out, two-run double in the sixth inning to lead Mattanawcook Academy past Caribou 4-2 in the second game of a doubleheader. Caribou won the first game 9-6.

In the first game, Jordan Haines a grand slam and a single for Caribou. Kyle Corrigan doubled and singled with two RBIs and Jarryd Rossignol added an RBI single.

Aaron Flannery had two doubles and two RBIs for Mattanawcook. Peter Coggins and Tyson Tash each had two singles.

In the second game, Long tripled and doubled with two RBIs for the Lynx. Tash hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Rossignol had two singles and a double with an RBI for the Vikings. Justin Bouchard singled twice and Seth Sager added a double.

At Orono, Max Winter pitched a three-hitter as the Red Riots earned the first of two victories on the day.

Winter struck out 10 and walked five, and was backed by a defense that made just one error.

Kash Keezer and Ben Stout each doubled home two runs during a four-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning that snapped a 1-1 tie.

Keezer and Stout also had a single apiece.

Josh Astbury doubled for George Stevens of Blue Hill, while Peter Dickinson singled and scored a run.

At Orono, Adam Jackson pitched a five-hitter and Tony Raymond and Jared Bussell each singled twice to lead the Red Riots past Penobscot Valley of Howland.

Max Winter added a two-run single in the sixth inning when Orono scored four runs to put the game away.

Jackson struck out three and walked just one on the mound for the Red Riots.

Nate Jipson hit a home run and a double for the Howlers.

At Bangor, Nick Hubbard hit a three-run home run in the first inning and a single to drive in five runs and lead John Bapst past Mount Desert Island of Bar Harbor.

Aaron Healey singled three times for the Crusaders. Casey Hull doubled and singled and Kyle Gallant added two singles.

Ben Clark tripled and singled with an RBI for the Trojans. Calvin Tweedie hit two singles and Danny Dunn doubled.

Mariners sweep J-B Royals

At Jonesport, Ethan Pinkham allowed just two hits and no walks while striking out eight to lead Deer Isle-Stonington to a 14-0 shutout win over Jonesport-Beals in the second game. The Mariners also won the first game 14-1.

In the first game, Jon Eaton allowed one run on two hits and no walks with eight strikeouts for the Mariners. Rob Brown, Bryant Ciomei, Shane Eaton, and Jon Eaton each hit RBI doubles.

Harry Beal and Harold Lyons doubled for Jonesport-Beals.

In the second game, Eben Powers and Eric Moran hit RBI singles for Deer Isle-Stonington and Jon Lymburner singled and scored twice.

Sidney Look and Lyons singled for the Royals.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Tyler Weymouth allowed one run on three hits and five walks while striking out three to lead Foxcroft Academy to the narrow win over Dexter.

Nick Lancisi led off the game with his fifth home run of the spring for the Ponies, who have won eight of their last 10 games since an 0-5 start. Lancisi also singled, while David White drove in Shane Adkins with a sacrifice fly.

Aaron Woodman singled twice for Dexter and Ethan Woodman doubled. Dan Beatham allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out five.
