BREWER – A fire early Monday morning destroyed a gaming store and displaced three families.

The fire broke out at 53 North Main St. around 2:30 a.m. Monday, destroying the first floor gaming business, Gamezilla. Residents of the three second-floor apartments were home at the time of the fire, but all escaped safely, said Lt. Robbie Wildes of the Brewer Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to save the apartments, but the business was a total loss, Wildes said. The Red Cross is providing the building tenants a place to stay for the night, he said.

The owner of Gamezilla had insurance, but Wildes would not estimate the monetary loss. He did not know if the landlord of the building had insurance.

The cause of the fire was undetermined on Monday night.

Four members of the State Fire Marshal’s Office arrived at the scene around 8 a.m. Monday and continued to investigate the fire until 6 p.m.

Fire departments from Brewer, Holden, Eddington, Orrington and Bangor fought the blaze, Wildes said.
