DEXTER – A Hermon man apparently felt he’d spent too much energy stripping copper wiring from the vacant Faycott building to let a burglary charge stand in his way of making hundreds of dollars.
For the second time this month, Jeremiah Dorval, 32, was arrested for burglary in connection with copper wiring that had been illegally stripped from the building.
Police allege that Dorval was the man who fled last week when they went to check on a truck that had stopped behind the building.
Dexter police Officer Jeff Gotreau arrested Rocky Simard, 27, of Carmel, after Gotreau allegedly observed Simard and another man removing coils of the semiprecious metal from the back of the building.
Dorval remained at large until the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department arrested him Sunday at his home, Gotreau said.
Dorval was arrested and charged with burglary earlier this month when a contractor hired by the mill’s owner interrupted a burglary in progress. Police say Dorval was one of three men who allegedly had stripped about $30,000 worth of wiring from the building and had it coiled, ready for taking
Kevin Amero, 40, of Bangor also was arrested for burglary and Richard Wing, 25, of Bangor was summoned for burglary.
Thieves, yet to be identified, made off with the wire that had been cut and coiled by the trio a few days after their arrest.
In the latest incident, Gotreau said Simard and Dorval had about $1,400 worth of copper wiring ready to pile into the back of a truck when he arrived. He believed this batch of wiring had been hidden in another part of the mill.
In addition to the burglary charge this week, Dorval also was charged with theft, violation of bail and possession of burglary tools (bolt cutters and a hack saw).
His initial court appearance on the latest charges is set for July 13 in Penobscot County Superior Court in Bangor.
