Motorcyclist injured in crash with car

OLD TOWN – An Old Town man was rushed to the hospital Monday evening after the motorcycle he was driving was struck by a turning vehicle.

The motorcyclist, identified only as a male in his 30s, was riding north on Bennoch Road just before 7 p.m. when he was hit by a car turning left on to the road from Gould Street.

The driver of the car, a woman in her early 80s, had stopped at the intersection and thought she had enough time to make the turn, said Sgt. Scott Casey of the Old Town Police Department.

The man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with head injuries, Casey said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The woman, also from Old Town, was evaluated at the scene but was uninjured, he said.

A detective from the Orono Police Department was at the scene reconstructing the accident, Casey said. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
