The Department of Education’s first proposal of new school district consolidation had Madawaska listed as the superintendent’s home office in District 1. The latest plan lists Fort Kent as the location for the superintendent. Why?
The commission cited geography and demography as criteria in determining the home offices in each district. Madawaska has a similar population to Fort Kent, 20 miles away, and is only 25 miles from Van Buren, with Wisdom High School in St. Agatha a stone’s throw away.
Needless time, travel and inefficiency will result from an office not centrally located in the St. John River Valley.
