PORTLAND – The Portland Pirates’ coach spent part of the Memorial Day weekend in the Cumberland County Jail while many Mainers were cooking out, heading to the beach and enjoying other outdoor activities.

Kevin Dineen reported to jail Sunday to serve a 48-hour sentence on a driving to endanger conviction that stemmed from what was described by police as a drunken-driving arrest last June, authorities said.

Dineen was arrested while driving on Ocean Street in South Portland following an end-of-season party with players after being eliminated from the playoffs in his first season as coach of Portland’s American Hockey League franchise.
