SURRY – Peter Lord, founder and president of Island Astronomy Institute based in Bernard will present the program at the June 4 meeting of the Surry Community Improvement Association. The Friends of Morgan Bay are co-sponsoring this event.

An aerospace engineer, and recently a systems mechanical engineer for Sirius Satellite Radio Constellations, Lord and his wife, Linda Lord, live in Tremont. Lord is a consulting engineer for Stellar Solutions in Palo Alto, Calif., while overseeing the Institute.

He will describe the work of his organization, and demonstrate how excessive artificial light sources pollute the skies, wasting resources – both energy and money – and depriving much of the United States from seeing the stars.

SCIA meets in the Community Civic Center at Surry Elementary School on North Bend Road in the Village. The meeting opens at 7 p.m.

For more information, call 667-9000 or check the Institute’s Web site at www.islandastro.org.
