BANGOR – Lower Buck Street from Main Street to the Sunnyside Greenhouse will be closed from approximately 5 p.m. today through Saturday evening in order to accommodate the annual Soap Box Derby competition.

Drivers should seek alternate routes.

Approximately 50 children will participate in the 2007 derby race in several categories, including SuperKids, Stock, SuperStock, and Masters.

The course will be constructed Thursday evening. A media race and car inspections will be held starting at noon Friday, June 1.

A parade of the racers will take place at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 2, followed by a Mayor’s and City Officials’ Race at 9 a.m., with official heats to begin at 11 a.m., followed by an awards ceremony.
