Martinez, Richards solid for Panthers

MARS HILL – James Richards and Manny Martinez combined on a one-hitter with four strikeouts as the Central Aroostook Panthers won a pitchers duel with the Ashland Hornets, 3-2 in baseball action Wednesday.

Sam Clockedile rapped an RBI double in the sixth to drive in the winning run. Mitch Folsom hit an RBI single, and Richard also singled for Central Aroostook.

Tony Baker posted a run-scoring single in the fifth to lead Ashland behind hard-luck pitcher Jeremy Tarr, who allowed only three hits with no walks and no strikeouts.

At Presque Isle, Chris Beaulieu doubled and singled to knock in three runs as Presque Isle rolled in six innings.

Logan York and Bennett Cassidy each had two singles for the Wildcats.

Josh Tardif and Jesse Guimond had two singles apiece for Fort Kent.

At Hodgdon, Morgan Hall hit a three-run home run in the fourth inning to lead Hodgdon by Van Buren.

Jamie Ryan hit three singles and drove in two runs while Travis Quint added three singles. Jordan Guy added a pair of singles for the Hawks.

Matthew Parent had a double for Van Buren.

At Calais, Jamey Farley had an RBI double and a two-run sacrifice fly to help lead Calais past Jonesport-Beals.

Harold Lyons doubled and singled with a pair of RBIs for Jonesport-Beals.

At Searsport, Josh Nickerson hit a two-run home run and Tom Cameron ran his record to 5-0 with a two-hit shutout as Searsport prevailed in five innings.

Cameron doubled and singled, while Matt Bagley doubled and singled to knock in five runs for the Vikings.

Nick Emery doubled and Cody Andrews singled for the Patriots of Milo.

At East Machias, James Stauffer and John Hall each had an RBI double as Washington Academy prevailed.

Ryan Schoppe doubled and singled for the Raiders; Hall pitched 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Evan Alexander hit a three-run home run and later added a two-run shot for Sumner of East Sullivan.

At Lincoln, Alex Bottarelli’s RBI single scored Aaron Flannery with the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift Mattanawcook Academy past Ellsworth.

Flannery had two doubles and a single with an RBI, while Adam Long added a double and a single for the Lynx.

Pat Kelley had two singles and an RBI double for the Eagles.

At Howland, Sean Babin pitched a complete game allowing two runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts to lead Orono past Penobscot Valley.

Max Winter doubled, singled and drove in three runs while Babin added an RBI double for the Red Riots.

Joe Gilley had an RBI single for Penobscot Valley.

At Mars Hill, Andrea Mayo hit a triple, a double, and a single and drove in two runs to lead Ashland by Central Aroostook.

Whitney Flint hit a three-run home run for the Hornets, while Autumn Cobb had three singles and an RBI. Kayla Clark added a pair of singles.

Kayla Daigle had a double with three RBIs for the Panthers, while Sarah Long added an RBI double.

Shannon Martin paced Fort Kent with an RBI triple. Marissa Albert doubled and Ashley Boucher singled twice.

Karie Ouellette led Van Buren with a pair of RBI doubles.

At Brunswick, Jordan McLain pitched a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and provided the game’s only offense with a two-run homer as Brewer captured the KVAC championship.

Hailey Smith doubled and singled for the Witches, while Sarah Risser doubled.

Jess Russell, Courtney Coffill, and Jess Timmrick all singled for Brunswick.
