John Bapst Memorial High School

BANGOR – John Bapst Memorial High School Head Landis Green announced honor parts for the class of 2007.

Valedictorian is Nathaniel Hewett of Holden. Salutatorian is Meagan Tilton of Corinth.

Nat is a National Merit Commended Student, an AP Scholar, a two-year member of the John Bapst chapter of the National Honor Society and recipient of the Williams College Book Award. During his four years at Bapst, he has earned high honors and has received numerous academic awards for outstanding classroom achievement.

Nat has served in the student senate, on the school’s championship math team and as an admissions ambassador.

He was elected band council co-vice president in 2005 and co-president in 2006. He was selected to perform in the school’s honors band and the concert choir, earning several musical accolades that culminated with the 2007 Band Director’s Award.

He was featured as the student conductor in the spring concert. He also has been a lead cast member of the John Bapst Players, performing in the fall play or spring musical in each of his four high school years.

In the athletic arena, Nat earned letters in two varsity sports, skiing and tennis, in which he earned leadership and coach’s awards, respectively.

He is the son of Jackie and Charles Hewett of Holden. He will attend Williams College in the fall.

Meagan is an AP Scholar, a two-year member of the John Bapst chapter of the National Honor Society, which she serves as vice president; a Distinguished Alumna of the National Youth Leadership Forum; and recipient of the Clarkson University Leadership Award. She was named Wendy’s 2006 High School Heisman State Award winner. During her four years at Bapst, she earned high honors and has received numerous academic awards for outstanding classroom achievement.

For three years, Meagan has been a member of the student senate, serving as secretary during her junior year. She has been a member of the school’s math team, Key Club and The Bapstonian yearbook staff.

Meagan earned letters in three varsity sports, including the basketball cheerleading team, the school’s state championship track and field team, and the field hockey team. In the latter, she served as co-captain her senior year, was named Most Valuable Player and recipient of the Iron Duke Award in 2007 and was selected to the PVC All Star 2nd Team as a junior and to the All-Conference 1st Team and All-State Team as a senior.

Meagan is the daughter of Catherine and Kevin Tilton of Corinth. She will attend Bowdoin College in the fall.

Both Nat and Meagan trained as ethics facilitators for John Bapst. Recommended by their teachers as students of strong character who demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities, they were chosen to lead their peers in ethics-related discussions and workshops, helping to identify the school’s shared values as well as the skills necessary to make ethically charged decisions.

The John Bapst Class of 2007 baccalaureate ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 8, at All Souls Congregational Church in Bangor, followed by Class Night at the school. Commencement will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 10, in the John Bapst auditorium.
