Chris Parsons, a graduate of Thomas College in Waterville, has been named the assistant men’s soccer coach at the University of Maine.
Parsons joins first-year coach Pat Laughlin’s staff after spending the last two seasons as an assistant at Bowdoin College in Brunswick. He also served as the head coach at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish in 2003 and 2004.
“We are delighted to have someone with both Chris’ playing and coaching experience join our staff,” Laughlin said a press release.
“His experience and knowledge will be an asset to the program,” he continued. “He has been very successful at all levels and I look forward to working with him at Maine.”
Parsons started his career as the men’s head coach at Notre Dame College (N.H.), which went 48-11-1 from 1999-2001.
As a player, he made two National Junior College Athletic Association National Final Four appearances with Ulster County Community College (N.Y.). Parsons then played two seasons at Thomas, serving as a team captain in 1996. He was a two-time All-New England, All-State, and All-Conference selection.
He earned a B.S. in Sports Management from Thomas.
Bowdoin has three All-Americans
Defender Grace Moore heads a group of three Bowdoin College women’s lacrosse players that have earned All-America recognition.
Moore was a second-team choice after earning All-New England Small College Athletic Conference and All-Region first-team honors. The junior ranked among the team leaders with 30 groundballs, 22 draw controls, and 18 caused turnovers.
Goaltender Stephanie Collins-Finn and midfielder Taylor White were named third-team All-Americans. White, an all-league and all-region first-team choice, scored 27 goals this spring.
Collins-Finn earned a spot on the All-NESCAC second team and the All-Region first team. She had an 8.51 goals-against average and a .551 save percentage.
Colby’s Haskett earns honor
Kyle Haskett of the Colby College men’s lacrosse team has been named to the ESPN the Magazine/College Sports Information Directors of America District I At-Large All-Academic second team.
Haskett, who graduated Sunday, was a tri-captain for the White Mules. The English major was a two-time NESCAC All-Academic pick.
