Lauren Forgues of Boothbay went to Goat Island at Niagara Falls State Park last weekend and captured the USATF Junior 10K Racewalk national championship.
Forgues, who in the fall will be a sophomore at the University of Maine, covered the course in 54 minutes, 8 seconds, finishing almost three minutes ahead of runner-up Diana Rado of Pennsylvania (56:56.) Rado will attend UMaine-Farmington in the fall.
Pennsylvanian Pamela Alva, a high school teammate of Rado, was third in 58:28. She also plans to attend UMF.
Forgues, who finished fourth in the Open division, next competes at the USATF National Outdoor championship in Indianapolis.
