As a visitor to Maine from Texas, I was amused when I read the Associated Press article “Spelling bee words difficult to choose” by Joseph White in the May 29th edition. In it he wrote, “…poring over word lists and dictionaries, probing the depths of entomology in an attempt…”.
Entomology is the study of bugs and insects … hardly useful preparation for a spelling bee. The word he was looking for was “etymology.”
