Diabetes support groups

BANGOR – St. Joseph Healthcare’s monthly daytime Diabetes Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7, in the Diabetes and Nutrition Center, Building 1, St. Joseph Healthcare Park, 900 Broadway.

Group members share personal experiences relating to diabetes management, stress reduction and coping skills. Guest speaker will be dietitian Georgia Clark-Albert. Her topic will be “Cooking for Two.”

A second, evening support group meets the second Tuesday of each month. The June meeting of this group will be at 6 p.m. June 12, also at the Diabetes and Nutrition Center. For more information about either support group, call St. Joseph Healthcare’s Diabetes and Nutrition Center at 262-1870.

Celebrating cancer survivors

BANGOR – CancerCare of Maine will hold its annual celebration of cancer survivors 2:30-6 p.m. Saturday, June 9, on the waterfront at the corner of Railroad and Front streets.

Survivors include anyone who has ever had a diagnosis of cancer, and anyone whose life has been touched by a loved one’s cancer diagnosis.

Come celebrate and honor the struggles and triumphs of the moment, share fellowship and enjoy an afternoon of music, Maine humor and food.

Activities will include:

. 2:30 p.m., presentation of Community Support Award.

. 3 p.m., Spontaneous Jazz Ensemble.

. 4 p.m., Maine Hysterical Society.

. 5 p.m., Essence of Inanna.

There will be activities for children and teens, educational and resource displays, sandwiches, salads and ice cream.

Tents and folding chairs provided.

Infant mental health

BANGOR – The Penquis Child Care Resource Development Center offers Introduction to Infant Mental Health: Issues and Practice training 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, June 22 and 23, and Saturday, July 14, at Penquis CAP, 262 Harlow St. The cost is $15.

The session will be presented by nurse Anne C. Williams, infant mental health specialist. It provides specific information on attachment, temperament, relationship building, use of self, principles of infant mental health practice, assessment, identification and support of family strengths.
