ASHLAND – Henry Milligan slapped an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to tie the score at 2 and Isaac Ward drove him home with a double to lead as top-ranked Ashland rallied with three runs in the bottom of the seventh to knock off No. 9 Central Aroostook of Mars Hill 3-2 in an Eastern Maine Class D baseball quarterfinal Thursday.

Ward doubled and singled to drive in a run for the Hornets and Tyler Cote singled and scored a run.

Logan McCarthy and Mitch Folsom singled for the Panthers and Will Delong scored both runs.

At South Paris, Reid McLaughlin’s two-run triple highlighted a five-run first-inning rally that lifted No. 6 Brewer past No. 3 Oxford Hills.

Brad Brown and Caleb Smith added RBI singles during the uprising, in which Brewer sent nine batters to the plate against Oxford Hills pitcher Ben Goodall.

Brewer did not score again, but that was enough offense for junior righthander Greg Higgins, who improved his record to 3-2 by scattering five hits while striking out eight batters and walking one in a complete-game performance.

McLaughlin also singled for Brewer, while Smith singled twice and Rick Adams doubled as the Witches won for the 10th time in its last 13 games.

Chris Roy singled twice for Oxford Hills, while Goodall and Ethan Sutton each doubled.

Pat Thibodeau singled twice for Caribou, while Kyle Corrigan tripled and Mike Doucette doubled.

Dustin Haines also pitched a six-hitter for Caribou, but the Vikings were hurt by seven errors.

Ebb Walton led off the inning with a single, and Josh Astbury plated him one batter later with a double. After a walk to Steve Ensworth, a Lucas Marks infield single and a pop-out, Nate Hines lined a sharp single to plate Astbury and Ensworth with the winning runs.

Hines finished with two singles, Astbury added a single and Marks an RBI double for George Stevens. Peter Dickinson laced a two-run double in the fourth to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.

Takeo Kurose paced the Raiders with an RBI double and an RBI single while Todd Jun singled three times to knock in a run.

Hilary Haney hit a two-run single in the fourth inning to lead Central and Erica Brownell singled twice.

Stearns forfeits quarterfinal

No. 3 Stearns of Millinocket forfeited its quarterfinal against No. 6 Washington Academy of East Machias.

The forfeit was the result of disciplinary actions against students, said school board chairman Tom Malcolm. He declined to comment further.

The decision to forfeit the game was made Thursday morning, Malcolm added.

The 13-5 Raiders will face No. 2 Penobscot Valley of Howland in the semifinals. Stearns finishes at 12-5.

Skowhegan remained scoreless until the sixth, when Crystal Johnson singled home one run and the go-ahead run came home on an error.

Brittany Gould’s RBI single provided the Indians an insurance run in the top of the seventh.

Gott finished with two singles for Hampden, while Michelle Wells doubled.
