BANGOR – A local man was arrested Friday night after he allegedly attacked emergency room staff at St. Joseph Hospital.

According to police reports, Kurt R. Champagne, 19, of Griffin Road arrived at the hospital after he was assaulted behind the Airport Mall. While a nursing supervisor was cleaning his facial wounds, Champagne, who was visibly intoxicated and admitted to drinking, became combative, grabbing the woman’s wrist and twisting it. He then punched a male nurse in the chest and kicked a security guard in the upper body, according to witness reports.

Champagne reportedly “spoke to them as if they were the ones who assaulted him,” the police report said. After police arrived, Champagne stated he didn’t remember the episode and was apologetic. He was arrested on two counts of assault and taken to Penobscot County Jail with a court date of July 12.
