Home-car burglary reported in S. Dover

DOVER-FOXCROFT – A South Dover resident told police Saturday that someone apparently had entered her home while she was asleep and took her purse and about $80 from a vehicle.

Both the home and vehicle were left unlocked, according to Dover-Foxcroft Police Chief Dennis Dyer.

“People have got to learn they have to keep the doors to their homes and vehicles locked,” Dyer said Saturday. “Times are changing, and Dover-Foxcroft residents, just like residents in every other Maine community, must be vigilant to protect their properties,” he said.

Dyer said the purse contained about $2 and personal papers. About $80 was taken from a work van that was on the property, he said.

Police also are continuing to receive complaints about car burglaries, but in nearly every instance, the vehicles were left unlocked, Dyer said.

Dyer believes the thefts that have occurred from vehicles over the past six months are drug-related.
