OSBORN – A 22-year-old woman is in critical condition in a Bangor hospital after she was injured in an ATV accident on the Trout Brook Road off Route 179 early Sunday morning.
According to Warden Dave Simmons, Danielle Evans of the Bar Harbor area was driving the ATV with passenger Christopher Stillwell, 19, of Aurora at about 1:30 a.m. Sunday when the accident occurred. It is unclear what happened, Simmons said.
“The passenger said they just went off the road,” the warden said. “He didn’t have a clue what happened.”
Simmons said he searched the scene and found the ATV, covered with blood, but not seriously damaged.
Evans was unconscious after the accident, Simmons said. Stillwell was able to carry her back to a camp at Bog River Camps where they were staying. They were unsure exactly where they were, he said. The cell phone they used to call for help was equipped with a GPS device, and that helped emergency workers to locate them.
Neither Evans nor Stillwell was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Evans suffered serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she remained in the intensive care unit Sunday afternoon.
Stillwell also was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries and the details of his condition were not available Sunday.
The accident remains under investigation.
