Vinery revival

The Vinery at Arborvine, a favorite spot in Blue Hill, has opened for the season. Chef John Hikade and his crew will serve up light fare, cool drinks and live entertainment from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. However, the bar stays open until 10 p.m. or later. Market munchies

Anyone who has been to Bangor’s summertime marketplace knows there are plenty of reasons to visit: great artisans, a friendly atmosphere and live music. But this summer, food vendors will add a farmers market feel to this popular Thursday night event. Offerings include fruit, vegetables, eggs, meat, flowers and seedlings from Valley Farms, the ever-popular Donna’s Daily Bread, goat cheeses from Udder View Farm, cranberry products from Sugar Hill Cranberry, offerings from Worcester’s Wild Blueberries – plus all the handcrafts and Maine products that visitors have come to love. The market begins tomorrow and will run from 5 to 8 p.m. every Thursday through Aug 2 behind the Pickering Square Parking Garage. For information, visit www.downtownbangor.com.

Rio? Grand!

When you think of Brazil, you think soccer and bikinis, right? Well, Blame It on Rio, the new restaurant in the Southwest Harbor village of Manset, will have you thinking about food, too. Blame it on Rio, located at the former XYZ space, will feature a Brazilian menu for lunch and dinner Wednesday through Monday. For information, call 244-9144 or e-mail rioatdockside@yahoo.com.

Opus in Bloom

Two of Bangor’s hottest young chefs – Amber Lee, formerly of New Moon Cafe, and Roger Gelis of Opus – have teamed up to offer lunches downtown. Lee recently opened Bloom Bakery at 56 Main St., serving her sinful desserts, focaccia and fine pastries, along with Maine’s own Java Joe coffee. Now, Gelis is preparing light lunches for sale at Bloom, including spinach, chicken, Caesar and Cobb salads. As demand increases, Bloom will offer a wider menu. In addition, Lee and Gelis plan to offer catered lunches to downtown businesses. For more information, call Bloom at 942-7774 or Opus at 945-5100.
