Bangor Daily News High School Players of the Week

BOYS

Big School (Classes A-B)

RILEY MASTERS

Masters, a junior on the Bangor High School track and field team, posted a personal-best time of 4 minutes, 19.45 seconds in the 1,600-meter run at the New England Championships in Fitchburg, Mass., last weekend. Masters placed seventh and was the top Maine runner in the field.

Small School (Classes C-D)

ETHAN PINKHAM

Pinkham, a junior for the Deer Isle-Stonington baseball team, helped carry the Mariners to the Eastern Maine Class D championship. In three playoff victories, Pinkham collected seven hits and knocked in six runs. He hit four singles with four RBIs and scored three times Tuesday in the Mariners’ title-game win over Ashland.

GIRLS

Big School (Classes A-B)

ALEX SULLIVAN

Sullivan, a sophomore on the Bucksport softball team, went 6-for-11 and recorded four RBIs in three Eastern Maine Class B playoff games. She was 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs in an 8-2 semifinal win over Ellsworth Saturday to help the Golden Bucks advance to the EM final again.

Small School (Classes C-D)

NICKY SARGENT

The Sumner of East Sullivan pitcher tossed a two-hitter with 13 strikeouts to beat previously undefeated Calais 4-0 in an Eastern Maine Class C softball semifinal Friday. Sargent gave up five hits in a 6-4 quarterfinal win over Central of Corinth Thursday and also recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly to provide the game-winning run.
