Local baseball standouts Jarrett Lukas of Old Town and Gordon Webb of Bangor are among the four finalists for the 16th Dr. John Winkin Mr. Baseball Award, presented annually to the state’s top high school senior baseball player.
Joining Lukas and Webb are Oak Hill of Sabattus graduate Josh Jillson and Poland’s Joe Douglas. The winner will be announced before the Maine High School Senior All-Star Baseball Classic Friday, June 22 at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.
Lukas has already been honored as the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year after hitting .531 with four home runs in 15 games with the Coyotes. The shortstop and pitcher will attend the University of Maine this fall.
Webb is a catcher who batted .553 with three homers and 16 RBIs for the Rams. He also had a slugging percentage of .842. He will attend Bates College in the fall.
Jillson compiled a 4-2 record with a 1.79 ERA and 73 strikeouts in seven games. He threw a no-hitter and finished the regular season with a .305 batting average. He will also attend UMaine in the fall.
Douglas is a lefthanded pitcher who also plays outfield and first base. He hit .500 with 22 walks and will head off to Saint Joseph’s this fall.
