“Hey, Paula,” I’m not sold on your new show. I love Paula Abdul on “American Idol” and admit that I used to dance around my room as a teenager singing songs such as “Straight Up” dreaming I was a big pop star, but her newest reality endeavor just doesn’t do it for me.
“Hey Paula” is yet another celebreality documentarylike show that follows Abdul through her daily life. Viewers will see her prepare for the Grammy Awards, work on a new Bratz doll movie where she designs the clothes, market her many products, and film the sixth season of “Idol.”
I love that she lets us into her world without worrying about perfect makeup, hair and clothes all the time, but the preview had one moment that bothered me.
Abdul claims that she’s just like everybody else. While she does put her pants on one leg at a time just like you and me, she does it with the help of an entourage. The last time I checked, I didn’t have a hair and makeup stylist, someone to pick out my clothes, personal assistants to pack my bags or someone to pick me up in a limousine at the drop of a hat.
I’ll give her credit that she’s always sweet to her fans and appreciates their support, but she’s a little moody at times with her staff. I guess it’s all part of the business, but Abdul shouldn’t claim to be like everybody else when she’s far from it.
“Hey Paula” is scheduled to premiere with two back-to-back half-hour episodes starting at 10 p.m. Thursday, June 28, on Bravo. If you’re a diehard Abdul fan, check it out. Otherwise, change the channel.
On a sad note, one of my favorites from “Hell’s Kitchen” has been eliminated.
Chef and foul-mouthed host Gordon Ramsay got rid of Eddie Langley this week because he made too many little mistakes. If you ask me, it should have been Aaron who got the boot for being a crybaby.
See who’s voted out of the kitchen next at 9 p.m. Monday on Fox.
