ISLESBORO – High school junior Peter Anderson was inducted into the Islesboro Central School chapter of the National Honor Society during its meeting last month.

Anderson, who commutes to the island school from St. George, has maintained high academic standings. In addition to his academic performance, Anderson teaches sailing in the summer, and volunteers with Trekkers and other organizations performing community service on a regular basis. He is regularly spotted at Islesboro basketball games disguised as the Eagle mascot and serves as a role model for younger students. His parents presented him the National Honor Society insignia pin during the ceremony.

The Islesboro Central School chapter of the National Honor Society held its induction ceremony May 31 at an all-school assembly. Current members Caitlin Anderson, Jon Cunningham, Nathan Gorham, Skye Lawrence and Colin Schmidt conducted the ceremony with chapter adviser Katie Nelson.

National Honor Society members are selected for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character. To be eligible for membership, junior and senior students must have a cumulative grade-point average of 90 or better and meet the established criteria.

At the closing of the ceremony, the organization challenged the rest of the student body to set high academic standards for themselves and to aspire to become a member of the Islesboro Chapter of the National Honor Society.
