DEXTER – A Jay man who was critically injured in an all-terrain vehicle accident in Dexter on Wednesday has died.
Daniel Holt, 63, died at 2 p.m. Thursday at Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Mark Michaud, director of public information and education at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Holt had been riding his Honda four-wheeler on an all-terrain vehicle trail near Route 7 with two companions Wednesday when he reportedly struck a rock and both he and his vehicle rolled into a ditch, Michaud said. Holt, who was wearing a helmet, received head injuries in the accident, he said.
After the accident, Holt was taken to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft and then flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Holt died as a result of his injuries and from complications that stemmed from the blood-thinning medication he was on, according to Michaud.
