Religion in brief CAMDEN: FAITH-BASED QUAKER

The former director of the Washington, D.C., office of the American Friends Service Committee will speak about his 20 years on the job at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Camden Public Library. In his lecture, “An Over-the-Hill Quaker: Experiences in Faith-based Advocacy in Washington, D.C.,” Jim Matlack of Rockport will discuss his years at the helm of the Quaker organization that manages relief, refugee, humanitarian aid and peace-making programs overseas along with a wide range of peace and social justice activities in the U.S. The constant stream of issues, crises and calls for public witness required a blend of Quaker values with up-to-date information and advocacy skills.
