Sports center posts summer activities

CARIBOU – Officials with the Maine Winter Sports Center are hoping local residents will get out and get active this summer. They listed several area events, races and fun things to do in the next month.

. On June 16, River Fest will be held in Fort Kent. The festival will include various watercraft races and events, including a canoe-kayak race, an anything-that-floats race and a motorized canoe race. For more information, visit www.fortkentchamber.com/riverrace.

. On June 23, the Top of Maine Mountain Bike Race will be held in Madawaska. The 15-mile race begins at 11:15 a.m. For more information, contact the Madawaska Recreation Department at 728-3604.

. The Svenska Tour of the Swedish Colony will be offered this summer. Beginning at Thomas Park in New Sweden, participants can join in on 33-mile, 12-mile, or 3- to 6-mile bicycle tours of the historic Swedish Colony. Tours begin at noon. . On June 24, the S.W. Collins 5K Run-Walk will be held in Caribou. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The Kids 1K will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the 5K will start at 9:30 a.m. For more information, contact Leah Ewing at 496-6732.

. June 25-28, the MWSC will offer its Youth Canoe Camp. The camp is open to all youth ages 11 to 14. Participants will paddle the Fish River chain of lakes – including Long Lake, Mud Lake, Cross Lake, Square Lake and Eagle Lake – and sleep under the stars. . July 12-15, the North American Summer Biathlon Championships will be held in Fort Kent. There will be races for experienced and novice biathletes, including paintball biathlon and golf cart biathlon. For more information, visit www.10thmtskiclub.org.
