LITCHFIELD – A Pennsylvania woman and her young son were fatally injured over the weekend when their car overturned on the Maine Turnpike in Litchfield, state police said.
Troopers said the woman’s car was heading north just after 3 p.m. Saturday when it drifted to the right and the woman apparently overcorrected. The car overturned three times and came to rest on its roof.
The woman, identified as 35-year-old Xantha Calsetta of Easton, Pa., was dead at the scene, and her son, identified as 3-year-old Cieroco Bearb, died as he was being taken by ambulance to a Lewiston hospital, state police said.
Authorities said Calsetta and her son were traveling to Jonesport to join relatives for a vacation.
State police said a second car traveling in the southbound lane struck the guardrail in the median as the driver witnessed the crash in the opposite lane.
The second driver was taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston with nonlife-threatening injuries, state police said.
