After a drinking buddy apparently took a Bangor woman’s cigarettes, she got so mad she chased him down the street with a knife, police said.

When police caught up with Vicki Bunker, 46, around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, she was standing in the driveway of a First Street apartment with the knife in her hand.

The victim, Raymond Mallory, 31, a Bangor transient, admitted to police that he took Bunker’s tobacco and cigarettes and said the two had been drinking together all day at her First Street apartment, several houses away.

Bunker reportedly told police she grabbed the knife from her apartment and chased Mallory “to cut him up.”

Police arrested Bunker for criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and took her to Penobscot County Jail.

A Pittsfield woman was injured early Monday when her car struck a disabled pickup truck parked on the side of U.S. Route 2.

Marilyn Race, 65, was driving a 1994 Ford Taurus east near the intersection of Powers Road when she crested a hill about 5:30 a.m. Race told police that the rising sun blinded her at the same time that another vehicle began passing her.

Race pulled to the right and struck the rear of a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck that had been parked “well off the road,” Chief Steve Emery said Monday.

Both vehicles were destroyed, Emery said.

Race was taken to Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield for head and facial injuries caused when her air bag deployed, Emery said.

Two women were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center after an accident Monday afternoon on South Main Street in Brewer, according to Brewer Police Sgt. Rich Smith.

Smith didn’t have the names of any of the people involved in the accident, but said the driver of one of the vehicles had to be extracted from her vehicle after it was broadsided by a car that failed to yield when pulling onto South Main Street from Pendleton Street.

A passenger in the vehicle that was struck initially said she was fine but collapsed at the scene and had a seizure, Smith said.

A Brewer man was charged with robbery Monday after he shoved a cashier out of the way while trying to run out of the South Main Street Big Apple convenience store in Brewer, according to Brewer police Sgt. Rich Smith.

Tyler Bailey, 18, went into the store around 2:30 a.m. Monday, took beer from the cooler and attempted to run out of the store but was blocked by the cashier. Bailey pushed the cashier out of the way, only to run outside where Brewer police Cpl. Levi Sewall was standing in front of the police station across the street, Smith said.

Sewall, assisted by Officer Peter Rancourt, apprehended Bailey outside the store. The cashier identified Bailey as the robber, but then the cashier also noticed Bailey’s friend standing nearby.

“That’s the guy that shoved me,” the cashier said, pointing to Bailey.

“And that’s the guy that was in here the night before,” the cashier said, pointing at Bailey’s friend, Alan White, 19, also of Brewer, who allegedly had stolen beer from the store the night before. Because he didn’t use force when he stole the beer, White wasn’t arrested but was issued a summons for theft. Smith was unsure Monday evening of the correct spelling of White’s first name.

Bailey was arrested and taken to Penobscot County Jail, where he remained Monday night. He is expected to appear today at 3rd District Court in Bangor. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN)
