Hermon alumni planning ‘All-years Reunion’

The word “impressive” comes to mind when you consider the accomplishments of organizers for the Hermon Alumni Association All-years Reunion 2007, which is planned for July 13-14.

Diana Richardson reports the group has “approximately 825 names of former students, and faculty, in our database, and we are seeking more.”

Reunion details and a reservation form are available online at hermonhs.org and then click on the alumni link.

The reunion reservation deadline is Sunday, July 1.

“We are very excited” to have “established a scholarship fund,” Richardson reported, adding that “the first HAA scholarship was presented to Rebecca Colpitts, HHS 2007, who is the daughter of HHS graduate Richard Jr. (Class of 1981) and Vonnie (Class of 1982) Colpitts of Levant.

“We have many multigenerational families of Hermon students,” she wrote, adding that this year is an especially important one for her and her family.

Richardson will celebrate her 40th reunion, she wrote, and “our daughter celebrates her 20th and my father’s class celebrates its 60th” reunion.

The Hermon Alumni Association is “building our alumni database by word of mouth,” so its members ask for your help in forwarding information to family and friends.

Festivities planned for the July 13-14 weekend include a Sock Hop on Friday, July 13, and on Saturday, July 14, a guided tour of HHS, a yard sale, a 5K run/walk, a reunion lunch, a bus tour of Hermon and evening festivities at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.

Conductor Jan Cox e-mailed to report that the Brewer Hometown Band opens its 2007 Concert Series at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Brewer Auditorium.

She added that each concert this year will begin at the same time, and that the “evenings when Mother Nature plots against us, we will take the concert inside” the auditorium.

Cox and assistant conductor, Beth Zdrojowy, have lined up “a great variety of music for your listening pleasure.”

They invite you “to bring a chair, create a picnic or sit in your car, but do bring your family and friends with you for a pleasant musical evening” on these Thursdays: June 21, July 5 and 19, and Aug. 2 and 16.

There is no admission for any concert, but donations gratefully will be accepted.

Cox added that the Brewer Hometown Band will perform in the annual R.B. Hall Day with an appearance at 10:25 a.m. Saturday, June 30, in Fairfield.

Cox wants readers to know that this daylong “music festival is free to all, and provides band music by community groups from all over the state.”

Treasurer Joyce Barr of St. Thomas Anglican Church invites you to attend a benefit Yard Sale and Food Sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, at 373 Bangor Road, Route 1A, in Ellsworth.

Barr reports that lunch also will be available “to buy and eat while you browse,” and that proceeds from the rain or shine event will benefit the church’s building fund.

Here’s a “save-the-date” notice from Ellen Fuller of Searsport, who wants you to know that the Searsport Historical Society will host its first Local Artists-Local History Show on Saturday, Aug. 18, and Sunday, Aug. 19, at Searsport Town Hall.

Fuller reports this unique exhibit will feature the many artists “Searsport has produced over the years, ranging from the internationally known Waldo Pierce to the locally acclaimed Dolly Smith to the relatively unknown former engraver for the U.S. Treasury Department, L. Sylvester.”

Fuller wrote, “We have, within the area no less than 40 active painters and sculptors,” adding that she hopes you come and view “our local talent and artistry in its many forms. You will be pleasantly surprised by the richness of the experience.”

Ellen Russell wants her fellow classmates to know that plans are under way for the 45th reunion of Bangor High School Class of 1962 on Saturday, Aug. 11.

Russell also wrote that reunion organizers have been unable to locate 50 classmates.
