Open up and say “Arrrrgh!” On Friday, “The Republic of Pirates” will take over Searsport. Well, its author will, at least.

The Penobscot Marine Museum and Left Bank Books have teamed up for a lecture and book-signing by Colin Woodard, the Portland-based journalist whose previous books include “Lobster Coast” and “Ocean’s End.” His latest work of nonfiction, “The Republic of Pirates: Being the True and Surprising Story of the Caribbean Pirates and the Man Who Brought Them Down,” has been named a New York Times “Summer Reading Choice.”

Though the real-life story is a little racier than Disney’s version, it’s still loaded with intrigue and drama on the high seas. That said, children are welcome to the talk, which is free and open to the public. The event will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at PMM’s gallery, 40 East Main St. Refreshments will be served.
