HAMPDEN – Shawn Smith hit a two-run single in the third and later came around to score on a passed ball in a three-run fifth inning that lifted Hampden by Lincoln 8-7 in an American Legion baseball opener Tuesday night.

Smith finished with three singles and four RBIs for the winners while Tim Kenerson and Corey Harding each chipped in with a single and a double. Kenerson also had an RBI.

Jeff Osborne cranked a three-run home run in the seventh for Lincoln. Josh Murchison added two singles and Osborne also singled.

Waldo 9, Calais 1

At Calais, Casey Ashey hit a solo home run and later added a pair of RBI singles as Waldo opened with a victory.

Rick Bernosky singled in a run and knocked a solo homer while Caleb Ashey hit an RBI double and sacrifice fly for the Wildcats.

Scott Geel tripled and scored on Aaron Sullivan’s RBI groundout for the Suns. Jeff Ramsdell doubled.

At Presque Isle, Hunter Caron slammed a two-run home run in the fourth inning to lift Presque Isle past Penquis.

Tyler Lamoureux singled twice and Devin Hersey doubled for the Patriots. Michael Cleary pitched a five-hit shutout.

Brad Bellemare had three singles for Penquis.

Bangor 8, Orono 5

At Mahaney Diamond in Orono, Jimmy Cox pitched three innings of no-hit relief to lead Bangor to victory.

Cox struck out five and didn’t walk a batter.

Gordie Webb’s RBI triple and Jordan Clarke’s RBI single highlighted Bangor’s five-run second inning. Ian Edwards chipped in with a run-scoring single.

Jarrett Lukas tripled for Orono and Adam Fournier had an RBI single.
