BAILEYVILLE – U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins pledged Wednesday to do what they can in support of the 90 employees of the Domtar Inc. pulp and paper mill who will lose their jobs when a paper machine is shut down this weekend.

Snowe and Collins said in a press release Wednesday that they were working with the U.S. Department of Labor to ensure that Domtar’s request for Trade Adjustment Assistance is reviewed quickly.

The federal TAA program helps workers who lose their jobs or whose wages are cut back because of increased imports. If aid is granted, displaced Domtar workers would be eligible for training in another job, income support, and even relocation services.
