2 top hockey recruits sign letters at UMaine

University of Maine men’s ice hockey coach Tim Whitehead announced Friday that he has received National Letters of Intent from Jeff Dimmen and Lem Randell to attend the University in the fall of 2007.

“We are pleased to announce the addition of these two student-athletes this fall,” Whitehead said in a press release. “We look forward to having them with our program and are expecting them to make an immediate contribution to the team.

Dimmen is a 6-foot, 190-pound defenseman from Colorado Springs, Colo. He played with the St. Louis Bandits of the NAHL this past season, where was named an NAHL first-team all-star. He recorded 47 points (9 goals, 38 assists) in 50 games with the Bandits and the Alaska Avalanche.

Dimmen’s 47 points were second among league defenseman.

Randall, a 6-1, 195-pound forward from Snow Lake, Manitoba, racked up 101 points (37-64) for the OCN Blizzard last season. His 101 points was good for second on the Blizzard, and he was named a second-team MJHL all-star.

Randall also earned the team’s “Human Wrecking Ball” award, and was also the recipient of the GM Award for Community Involvement.

Dimmen and Randall join a recruiting class that includes defenseman Mike Banwell and forwards Glen Belmore, Robbie Dee, Tanner House, Keif Orsini, Nicholas Philips, Andrew Sweetland and Josh Van Dyk.

Dimmen and Randall’s coming to Maine is contingent upon admission to the institution and clearing NCAA Clearinghouse waivers.
