Everyone associated with the Pittsfield Community Garden Club hopes you will buy your tickets now for its Garden Tour 2007, planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, Saturday, July 14, in Pittsfield and Burnham.
Garden Club member Justine Mencl wants readers to know “this is our one, huge effort” to help the organization make a significant financial contribution to benefit the Pittsfield Public Library Building Fund.
Opened in 1904, the library trustees announced on its 100th anniversary the start of a campaign to add space and modernize library services. Proceeds from this tour will benefit the Pittsfield Library Renovation Fund.
Tickets for the tour, which features 11 gardens and two homes, are $10 in advance and $12 the day of the tour.
A senior discount is available, and preordered, boxed lunches will be available for $6 each.
Guests are encouraged to picnic at Manson Park, Stein Park, Hathorn Park or the newly planted park on Sebasticook Street in Pittsfield.
Public restrooms are available at the library and Manson Park, and balloons and signs will guide you along your way.
The tour is under the leadership of Donna Laux, who is working with a committee made up of local gardeners, library trustees, members of Eastern Star and other people.
This committee has planned a tour that includes large and small gardens; those that are flowery, shady, sunny and woodsy; and a bonsai, fruit and vegetable garden.

Belfast Public Health Nursing Association is offering a free blood pressure clinic from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at its office, 119 Northport Ave., Belfast.
You do not need to schedule an appointment. The clinic is open to everyone, and walk-ins are welcome.

Charlie Liu of The Salvation Army has announced that the PowerHouse Teen Center is offering scholarships for area teens who would like to participate in a series of three Junior Achievement Success Skills programs.
The programs will be conducted from 4 to 6 p.m. Fridays, June 29, July 6 and 13, at the Center on South Park Street in Bangor.
To qualify for a scholarship, teens are asked to make a commitment to the series through good attendance and participation.
The program focus is teaching, encouraging and promoting leadership qualities with the help of guest speakers, workshops, discussions and projects.
Space is limited, so teens are asked to register either in person at the center, or by calling Liu at 941-2990.

Kathy Upton wrote to announce that the Cherryfield-Narraguagus Historical Society is holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. Friday, June 29, at its new museum, located at 88 River Road in Cherryfield.
The ceremony, which is part of Cherryfield’s 250th anniversary celebration, is open to the public.
“At that time, we will also be dedicating the genealogical library in memory of co-founder and town historian Margery Brown,” Upton wrote.
Brown, who had been president of the historical society for 32 years, died last December.
The museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 30, and then will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Fridays during July and August, and by appointment.

Alison Rector e-mailed that Monroe Community Church is conducting the Great White Elephant Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the church on Route 139 in Monroe.
The sale is expected to feature “household items, children’s items, furniture, books, crafts and baked goods,” she wrote.
“If anyone would like to rent a table,” for $10, she added, “we are looking for vendors of crafts, treasures and stuff. You keep your profits from the stuff you sell.”
Rector reports that proceeds from the table-rental fees will benefit the Oncology Support Foundation.
