Bidder sweet

Doing good never tasted so good. The Baker’s Cafe, located in Tradewinds Marketplace, will hold two charity art auctions this summer, one each in July and August. Participating local artists will submit their work and specify a charity, which will receive half of the winning bid. Shows will hang for a month with an ongoing silent auction, which begins the first Monday of each month and concludes at noon on the last Friday of the month. Bidders may register at the Cafe for $5 per bidder per month, or preregister for both months for $8. For information, call Heather Rowe at 374-5018.

California dreamin’

Chef Roger Gelis of Opus in Bangor will usher in summer with a California wine dinner this Friday, June 29. The meal begins at 6 p.m. with a seasonal Pea Soup with Parmesan Flan and Parmesan Crisp followed by Prosciutto-Wrapped Cod with Chive Oil and Potato Chips; Crispy Braised Pork Belly with French Lentils and Aged Balsamic Vinegar; Grilled Lamb Chops with Shiitake Mushrooms and Xocopili Sauce; and a dessert of Campfire S’mores with Oak Ice Cream. Each course will be paired with a California vintage selected by the staff of Wicked Wines. The meal costs $65 per person and reservations are recommended. For information, call 945-5100.

Salad days

Visitors to this Thursday’s Rockland Farmers Market will be “bowled over” by the Big Salad Bowl. The market will feature a salad bar with selections from all vendors, including Asian greens, lettuces, radishes, herbs and edible flowers, cheeses, chicken and pork products. In addition, vendors will offer recipes for their favorite salad dressings. The market takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays at Harbor Park in Rockland. For information, e-mail rfmnews@midcoast.com. The market boasts a bounty of products grown, made or raised in Maine, including seedlings, annuals, perennials; fresh, organic vegetables and herbs; goat, sheep and cow dairy products; all-natural chicken, beef and pork; artisan breads, pies and cookies, jellies, jams and preserves; fresh- and dried-flower arrangements, maple syrup and eggs; fine art photography; soap; and crafts.
