Fourth of July activities in Bangor and Brewer will begin with the annual Bangor Noon Kiwanis pancake breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 4, at the Brewer Auditorium on Wilson Street.

. The Walter Hunt Memorial 3K Race will begin at 10:45 a.m. at the Brewer Auditorium, with runners preceding the parade.

. The Greater Bangor 4th of July Corp., coordinated by area Kiwanis clubs, will sponsor the parade beginning at 11 a.m. on Wilson Street in Brewer. Longtime area coach John Winkin will serve as grand marshal.

The parade will proceed across the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, down Main Street in Bangor to the reviewing stand in West Market Square, along State Street, then turn right onto Exchange Street before disbanding.

Veterans will gather for the parade at 10 a.m. under the trees near the swimming pool on Wilson Street in Brewer. Units will walk together, while veterans needing a ride will board three buses provided by First Student. Large numbers of veterans are expected to take part in the parade.

. The Bangor Band will give a concert at 7 p.m. at the gazebo in Bass Park, Bangor.

. Fourth of July fireworks will be hosted by the Bangor Breakfast Kiwanis Club at 9:15 p.m. over the Penobscot River.

The Joshua Chamberlain Bridge will be closed to motorized traffic beginning at 7 p.m. in order for pedestrians to watch the fireworks from the bridge. There is a $1 charge for those who want to watch the fireworks from the bridge itself.

BAR HARBOR – The Downeast Time Bank will offer a silent auction and raffle in conjunction with the annual Mount Desert Island Seafood Festival at the Bar Harbor Athletic Field at Park and Main streets on the Fourth of July.

Donated raffle and auction items will include crafts and art created by local Hancock and Washington county artisans, special Washington County B & B packages and area day schooner sailing and local kayaking.

Ring 362 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians will present an All-Star Magical Revue at 2:30 p.m. at the Criterion Theater, featuring 12 Maine magicians performing a variety of tricks and stunts, as well as comedy and belly dancing.

BLUE HILL – The town’s downtown waterfront area will be busy today with activities to celebrate “A Fourth To Remember” beginning at 3 p.m.

Most of Water Street between the town park and fire station will be closed to traffic, and the area will be filled with booths and performance areas throughout the afternoon and evening.

Displays will include a model of the Liberty Bell from Cole Land Transportation Museum in Bangor and a number of World War II vehicles, along with readings of the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

Musical performances will include the Reggie Nevells Quartet, the 195th Army Band, a USO Show, the Maine Weather Band, New Trad Trio, GSA Jazz Band and The “3” Band. There also will be a dunking booth with the town’s selectmen as the targets, and a number of booths for children and adults.

The celebration also will feature traditional holiday food – hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and ice cream – all at 1940s prices.

The finale of the day will be a fireworks display set off on Johns Island beginning at 9:15 p.m.

GREENVILLE – A craft fair, games, a parade, a pie-baking contest and the popular rotten sneaker contest are on tap for the Fourth of July.

Events start at 9 a.m., and the activities will end with an outdoor concert by the Barn Kats and a fireworks display.

To accommodate the fireworks, the Junction Wharf boat launch will be closed from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The public may launch boats at the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife facility from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the Fourth only.

Boats will be allowed to be taken out of the water at DIF&W after the fireworks.

Alternative boat launching sites include the Maine Forest Service, Lily Bay State Park, Rockwood Boat Launch, and various commercial marinas, all of which have limited trailer parking, if any, and may charge a fee.

ROCKWOOD – The Rockwood Fire Department will sponsor a chicken barbecue from 2 to 5:30 p.m. on the Fourth of July at the Rockwood Community Building followed by a rubber ducky race on Moose River.

CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The town will hold a day of events at the Town Park.

The town pool opens 11 a.m. Line up at 12:15 p.m. at Tufulio’s parking lot for the kids’ parade; at 1:15 p.m. magician Stefan the Great performs, followed by a scavenger hunt and prizes in the sawdust pile and arts and crafts, karaoke and bands from 5 to 9 p.m. and fireworks at about 9 p.m.

SEBEC – Fourth of July activities will start with an 8 a.m. breakfast at Sebec Village Community Church and an 8 a.m. road race.

Parade lineup is at 9 a.m., a canoe race will start at 10:30 a.m., and a chicken barbecue is set for 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

LUBEC – Trash and treasure, doll carriages, jumping frogs and a parade kick off the Fourth of July celebration.

It starts at 8 a.m. with a trash-and-treasure sale sponsored by the Lubec Historical Society. It will be held on Route 189.

At 8:30 a.m. the doll carriage parade will be held at the Lubec Consolidated School.

At 10 a.m. there will be field races at the school, and the Lubec Memorial Library will hold its annual book sale at the library.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Fourth of July raffle will be held in front of the library.

The Lions Club will hold a barbecue at 11 a.m., followed by the town’s grand parade at 1 p.m.

After the parade, at 3 p.m., there will be watermelon-eating, pie-eating, frog-jumping, arm-wrestling and bubble gum-blowing contests at the boat ramp.

At 3:30 p.m., the annual boat race will begin, also at the boat ramp.

There will be live music at the bandstand at 4 p.m., and the Fourth of July raffles will be drawn.

At 6 p.m. is the Calithumpian Parade.

There will be face painting throughout the day as well as plenty of food.

There are some rules to follow: Do not smoke on the school grounds, do not litter, and watch for children and families crossing the roads.

EASTPORT – A flag raising at the breakwater and a huge parade are planned this year.

Events begin at sunrise with the 47th annual flag raising on the breakwater.

Sitting in the background will be the USS McFaul, a guided-missile destroyer.

Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula, Miss., built the ship. It was launched on April 12, 1997, and commissioned on April 25, 1998. It is more than 500 feet long and can operate at 30 knots per hour.

Its homeport is Norfolk, Va., and it carries a crew of 23 officers, 24 chief petty officers and 291 enlisted men and women.

From 7 to 11 a.m. is the annual blueberry pancake breakfast at the Eastport Municipal Airport. The Eastport Airport Association sponsors the event.

At 8 a.m. is the Calithumpian Parade, and at 9 a.m. there will be land sports that include races for girls and boys with a penny scramble to follow.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary will hold an open house at 10 a.m. There will be tours of rescue boats and equipment. There also will be information on responsible boating, safety and duties.

Also at 10 a.m. will be the 29th annual Buddy Allen Car, Truck and Bike Show at Bank Square.

At 11 a.m. participants can fill up on pie during the annual blueberry pie-eating contest at Overlook Park.

At noon is the doll carriage, wagon, bike and trike parade. Then at 2 p.m. is the Grand Independence Day Parade. This year’s theme is “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Floats will line up on Staniels Road from the Youth Center to BASF, the former Mearl Corp. Judging will be held at 1:15 p.m. with $500, $300 and $200 prizes based on originality and work.

At dusk will be the grand presentation of Eastport’s fireworks display.
