Theft of Cherokee, motorcycle under investigation in Bangor

Bangor police responded to three reports of vehicle thefts between late Sunday and early Monday, but one ended up being a family misunderstanding that occurred when the car owner’s daughter borrowed the vehicle without asking.

A black 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was left with its keys inside near Carolina Sports & Spirits under the Joshua Chamberlain Bridge, was reported stolen just before midnight Sunday, police Lt. Jeff Millard said Monday. A 2000 Honda 650 motorcycle parked behind an apartment on Ohio Street was reported taken sometime between 8 p.m. Sunday and 7:30 a.m. Monday, he said.

Those with information on either theft are asked to contact Bangor police at 947-7384. (Nok-Noi Hauger, BDN)

When police noticed two men sitting in a truck parked behind the Word of Life Christian Center on outer Hammond Street at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, they stopped to investigate. One occupant decided to run into the woods, Lt. Jeff Millard said Monday.

David Frost, 26, of Eddington was found by a police dog a short time later and charged with violating a condition of release, resisting submitting to detention and for an outstanding warrant.

He was transferred to Penobscot County Jail and made his first appearance in 3rd District Court in Bangor on Monday. (Nok-Noi Hauger, BDN)

A half-naked 2-year-old boy was reunited with his parents Monday night by Veazie police.

The child was found wandering around an apartment complex on the Thompson Road about 7:30 p.m. by a neighbor. After failing to locate the boy’s parents, the man called Veazie police, Chief Mark Leonard said Monday night.

Criminal charges were not filed, but the police said they will contact the Department of Health and Human Services about the incident.

Leonard estimated that the boy, wearing only a T-shirt, was outside about 20 minutes before he was found by the neighbor.

Officer Justin Angelo and Leonard located the mother, who was visiting a friend a short distance from the complex, the chief said.

The boy’s father, who has a medical condition, was in the apartment where the child appeared to have rummaged through the refrigerator before slipping outside, Leonard said. (Judy Harrison, BDN)
