Light fare with flair

The next wine dinner at Pairings, the food and wine education center in Winterport, will feature summer classics with a twist. Chef Robert Waldron will start the meal with Gazpacho, followed by a Salad of Iceberg Lettuce and Mixed Greens with Bacon, Marinated Tomatoes, and a Roasted Garlic Vinaigrette. For the main course, Waldron has chosen Salmon Stuffed with Gorgonzola and Spinach served with a Creamy Dijon Sauce, Roasted Sweet Corn and Red Potatoes. Four Berry Short Cake will provide a sweet finish to the evening. Each course will be paired with a selection from Winterport Winery. The meal costs $70 per person, and will take place at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 14. Reservations are required and will be accepted through July 10. For information or to reserve a seat, call 223-0990.

Carriage tales

Pick up some cabbage, then jump onto a carriage – this week only at the Rockland Farmers Market. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, July 5, market-goers can see the sights during a free carriage ride from the St. George Carriage Co. The market takes place every Thursday at Harbor Park in Rockland, and offers an array of local produce, meats, preserves, artisan items and baked goods.

A cup full of history

High tea on a summer afternoon in the gardens of Maine’s most beautiful estates – does it get any better than this? And this year it’s twice as good. The Afternoon Tea and Tour at Woodlawn Museum in Ellsworth has become such a popular tradition that its organizers have decided to offer visitors twice as many chances to enjoy it. A selection of treats will be served along with Woodlawn’s special tea blend – hot or iced – on the estate’s tea lawn at 3 p.m. Wednesdays and Fridays through the end of August. The tea and tour costs $22 a person or $18 for members, and reservations are required. For more information, call 667-8671.
