American Legion Boys State is an educational program for high school juniors. It focuses on participation in a model state, complete with governing bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of state government. Boys with qualities of leadership, scholarship, loyalty and service to their school, who have completed their junior year of high school, are eligible to attend the program.
American Legion Boys State in Maine has seen many of its graduates move into positions of leadership in politics and government. Nearly all of the governors who have served in Maine in the last 40 years have been graduates of Boys State.
