Wiscasset Raceway will regain Pro Stock racing next month.

Wiscasset Raceway dropped the class in the summer of 2004 with track owner Dave St. Clair citing high costs to the track and to the car owners.

Doug White, who recently bought Wiscasset Raceway from St. Clair, said he had planned to bring a weekly Pro Stocks series back next season, “but the response [to bringing back the Pro Stocks] was so overwhelming, I figured why wait until next year.”

“I’m really excited about bringing the Pro Stocks back to Wiscasset. I’ve always been an advocate of the Pro Stocks. I miss the idea of not having them around,” said White. “I’ll miss not seeing them at the Oxford 250.”

Unity Raceway eliminated the Pro Stock class in 2005 and Oxford Plains Speedway dropped it after last season.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough and Speedway 95 in Hermon still have weekly Pro Stock racing.

White has scheduled a meeting for anyone interested in the Pro Stock series at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the track, and there is a practice scheduled for July 28.

The Pro Stock racing series will begin on Aug. 4 and continue for the remainder of the season.

Johnny Clark III, father of PASS North driver and defending series champion Johnny Clark IV, will sponsor the weekly Pro Stock class. It will be known as the Clark’s Car Crushing Pro Stocks.

“John stepped up and told me he would sponsor the series if I wanted to do it this year. He wanted to bring them back,” said White, who used to work with Clark’s brother, Charlie.

White and Charlie Clark co-owned DNK Select Cars and Trucks in Farmingdale before White sold his share to Clark recently.

St. Clair will turn the track over to White on July 28.

In addition, White has already been able to schedule a Pro All-Stars Series Super Late Model North Division race on Aug. 19.

White said he will also bring back the DNK Select 250 Pro Stock race next season. It will be held on Aug. 17, 2008.
