TURNER – A paramedic tending a patient was killed early Thursday when the ambulance he was riding in collided with a pickup truck, authorities said.

The victim in the 3 a.m. accident, which happened at the intersection of Route 4 and Potato Road as the ambulance was en route from the Rumford area to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, was identified as Allan Parsons, 46, of Wilton.

Parsons died at the scene, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sun Journal newspaper of Lewiston reported online that the driver of the ambulance was identified as Arlene Greenleaf, 68, of Bethel, who had to be extricated from the ambulance.

The report also identified the driver of the truck as Christopher Boutin, 29, of Turner and said he was ejected from the vehicle.

Both Greenleaf and Boutin, along with the patient in the ambulance, were taken to Central Maine Medical, according to the report on sunjournal.com.

WCSH-TV reported that the Sheriff’s Department said the Med-Care ambulance had its emergency lights on when the pickup truck crossed in front of it.

A section of Route 4 was closed to traffic for about five hours.
