SAO PAOLO, Brazil – Boothbay’s Lauren Forgues nearly won the 10,000-meter racewalk at the Junior Pan American Games but settled for silver in the end.
Forgues, a University of Maine sophomore, crossed the finish line second behind Ingrid Hernandez of Colombia, who was disqualified. The DQ gave Forgues the victory, but Hernandez won an appeal.
Forgues, who finished in 51 minutes, 43.43 seconds, beat racewalkers from Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Ecuador.
