ORONO – The University of Maine field hockey team has received eight commitments for the 2007 season, including one from Miss Maine Field Hockey Kallie Aldus of Belfast, the school announced Monday.

Aldus will be joined by Lions teammate Britt Cummings as well as Skowhegan High star Courtney Veinotte of Canaan and West Gardiner native Bryleigh Cook, who played for Gardiner High.

The Black Bears also received commitments from Maire Dineen of Toronto, Leigh McIlvain of Lewes, Del., Cassandra Mendonca of Thornhill, Ontario, and Michelle Niedziejko of West Chester, Pa.

Aldus, a midfielder, was a three-time all-state selection and a captain along with Cummings, a forward-midfielder. The two helped Belfast win three straight Class B state titles and go 54-0 during that span.

Veinotte, a midfielder, helped the Indians to four straight Class A state crowns and was a Miss Field Hockey nominee who recorded 54 points as a senior. Cook, also a midfielder, was an all-state selection.

Dineen is also a midfielder who set a record for goals in a season as a freshman at Michael Power/St. Joseph High School. McIlvain, a midfielder-defender, led Cape Henlopen High to a 68-3-1 record in four years.

Mendonca was the captain of the 2005 Indoor Ontario Provincial team and a standout track and field athlete at Saint Elizabeth Catholic. Niedziejko, a mid, earned All-Catholic and All-State honors at Archemere High.

All National Letters of Intent signings and commitments are contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
