Last Saturday I read in the paper that Dirigo has been forced to suspend future enrollments because of lack of funding. On Wednesday, I read that Dirigo has saved Maine health care 92.7 million in its third year of operation. Call me crazy, but I suspect that politics are involved here.
I know that Gov. John Baldacci budgeted the money for Dirigo. I also know that people in Maine need and deserve affordable health care.
Without Dirigo, there is no affordable insurance in Maine. Many people will not receive necessary care because of this, and bottom line, everyone deserves health care. To those of you who feel it is money unwisely spent, I say to you: There but for the grace of God go I.
Please show your fellow man that you care. Call your local representatives and ask them to support Dirigo and the citizens of Maine. To the representatives who voted against it, I say shame on you.
